It sounds like you have been through a lot, and I’m sorry to hear that you’re still in pain. I have two recommendations based upon the brief history that you submitted. First, would be the Posture S’port brace by Saunders. This brace will mainly help support your thoracic and lumbar spine, with additional support provided to the upper back/shoulders. In consideration of your recovering cervical spine, you’re probably not quite ready for a brace that provides significant support to the upper back. For that reason I feel that this support is ideal in that it does not place significant tension in the upper spine and will help redistribute some of the pressure on your thoracic spine. Second, a good back rest for when you are seated will help to further support your body while you work, use the computer, read, or watch TV. This back rest will fit most chairs, and can therefore be used at home, work, or both. I have created a website highlighting the two recommended products: http://www.lucidforce.com/braceorsupport.htm
For long term correction, finding a chiropractor in your area to address any other concerns of the spine would be a very valuable addition to your healthcare team. Chiropractors specialize in treatment of dysfunction of the spine as well as the nervous and musculoskeletal systems using natural, non-pharmaceutical methods. The unique, non-invasive approach of chiropractors is typically the best place to start for patients with a wide variety of dysfunctions including: neck pain, back pain, joint pain, sports injuries, postural concerns, carpal tunnel syndrome, tarsal tunnel syndrome, headaches, certain visceral dysfunction, and many other common concerns. You can also rest assured that if your pain/discomfort is of a more serious (complicated) nature, your chiropractor will refer you to the appropriate healthcare specialist.
If you have any further question or concerns, please do not hesitate to submit them to me personally. Always remember that recommendations made by a doctor who has performed a physical examination of your body should be taken into consideration first. However, never be afraid to consult other practitioners, and place your trust in those whom you feel provide you with the opportunity to make an informed decision for yourself through proper education.
